Baule, du latin "boola", signifiant terre inculte.
Au XIIème, Baule était un prieuré-cure dépendant de l'abbaye Notre-Dame de Beaugency.
Les principaux hameaux qui la composent sont Baule proprement dit, Baulette, Lavau, les Ribaudières, Foisnard, la Bruère, l’Anglochère, les Groix, Villeneuve et les Vallées.
En des temps anciens se trouvait un chateau au hameau de l'Anglochère. e plus ancien propriétaire connu était noble homme Christophe Langlois, seigneur de Langloischère, commissaire des guerres du Roi en 1577.
I Population
En 1845, d’après les documents officiels, la population de BAULE était de 2010 habitants. Elle passera en dessous du millier de personnes au sortir de la guerre 14-18. Elle progresse à nouveau depuis une vingtaine d'années.
Il semble qu'à cette époque existait une industrie (sucrerie) qui a disparu avant guerre ce qui a entrainé le départ des ouvriers. Par ailleurs, la guerre a durement touché le village ; 64 jeunes sont morts et beaucoup de personnes agées ayant voulu les replacer aux champs se sont usées à la tâche et en sont morts.
Un à trois hectares au maximum plantés en vignes cultivés entièrement à la pioche suffisaient à occuper une famille même très nombreuse et lui permettaient de vivre assez pauvrement d’ailleurs.
La mécanisation a exigé de plus grandes propriétés. Or, BAULE encerclé par la Loire, MEUNG-SUR-LOIRE, MESSAS et BEAUGENCY n’a que 1200 hectares de terres cultivables et cultivées.
Les hameaux éloignés ont été détruits. A la différence d'aujourd'hui, il ne se faisait pas de nouvelles constructions.
